Female Plumbers

female-girl-plumberPlumbing is a male dominated trade but more women are working as or training to become plumbers. Women in plumbing a required to have all the same qualities as male counterparts, dedication, hard work, determination to learn and improve.

Often people will be surprised to see a female plumber knocking at their door but on the whole people are positive about it. Sometimes women may meet people who don’t think plumbing is a job for a lady (ask them why – I bet it will be funny watching them stutter trying to think of a good reason). Thankfully these outdated notions are quickly dying out and the more women that work in plumbing the more they dispel the myth that it is only a job for the boys. Female plumbers wages are very much in line with males.

i can’t believe you posted this just as i’ve started to think about plumbing as a possible career option! thanks so much for posting on the subject (and for posting relatively early in your investigation–nice to see it’s not an afterthought!).

i’m a career changer, and am interested in plumbing for all the reasons you yourself list; i seriously can’t believe the serendipity here, that you would start this blog right, and that i would find it, right about now. woo hoo!

It’s pretty weird to see lady plumber, but its not a hindrance as long as they can perform the job well then it’s Ok. That would be a challenge to everyone on us. More and more women are trying to practice this type of job it’s because of the higher pay as well.

You are spot on with what your saying.. I am a lady plumber/gas engineer ans also a mother of .4 children I completed city and guilds in technical plumbing and then went on a did my NVQ level 2 as an apprentice. I am now well on my way with my NVQ 3 gas and believe me i have had the funny looks and shocked faces when they open the door and see me.. but i have also had great feedback and possitive commenets saying how good it is to see a lady doing the job. I have come across some men who just can’t except what i do… but thats the way of the world…

Hello Kelly, I am considering taking up plumbing and have been lucky enough to do some on the job work experience doing repairs in houses (toilets/taps/baths etc etc) I’m just wondering though, how do you find the physical side of the job? I have done okay so far but when I say I am looking to take up plumbing, some of the fellas say I should take steroids/ do weights (I am about 5’3 and weigh 8 stone :))

This is so great to read, especially the feedback! I currently work in hospitality as a 26 yr old and Im thinking of moving to plumbing or electrician work for better pay, better hours and quite frankly better working enviroment. I’ll also admit that moving to Oz would be an incentive as its such a great standard or living.

I had some reserves about doing it, thinking I might be a bit old, it would be a boy club enviroment or maybe that I could fast track it but this website and the readers feeback has been a great help with sorting some of those thoughts out (fast track might be out the window now!)
    Thank you!!
